Life transitions frequently start with a sense of loss. For instance, a promotion to a new job may come with the loss of familiar colleagues and routines. Changes in relationships can lead to shifts in social circles, either by forming new connections or letting go of old ones. As parents, the empty nest phase brings pride in our children's independence but also feelings of loneliness and uncertainty about how to spend our newfound free time. Coping with a new medical diagnosis can leave us feeling uncertain, worried even if we have the support of others, we are seeking the time and space to talk about our thoughts and feelings without worrying family members.

Some symptoms that can be related to difficulty coping with life transitions:

Having faced my own personal life transitions by dealing with stress of medical changes, or  the “almost” empty nest, I understand the anxiety and uncertainty that comes when changes are presented both planned and unplanned. Feeling angry, frustrated, worried sometimes accompanied with wondering if the chaos will ever settle is a natural response to change.
