Therapy for Addiction

"Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations" - Zig Ziglar
Have you reached a point where you recognize the necessity for change, but feel stuck and doubtful about changing your addictive behaviors? Perhaps you have tried multiple times to break up with these behaviors with moments where you may have stopped or reduced but only to resume using. Feeling as if you have failed yourself and family and friends who support you? Your addiction issues may involve alcohol, drugs, nicotine, food, gambling, shopping, or other activities. In addition your addiction issues can be contributing additional stress in your life, job performance, relationship stress, financial stress, legal issues. This can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, increased social isolation and avoiding support from family, friends,’ partners, and coworkers. You do not need to struggle with addiction alone.

Imagine allowing yourself to start over, and reset your goal or create a new beginning. You are now creating the path to your recovery that works for you. Imagine you begin to feel increased hope and motivation for recovery. With my counseling style of honesty, support and authenticity you can learn to apply skills that are evidenced based to help manage your emotions and behaviors. In our sessions we start with your present goals and add Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT addresses the connection of thoughts feelings and behaviors that are connected to your addiction issues and additional stress you may also be experiencing in day-to-day life. CBT helps individuals reframe negative self-defeating thoughts into more realistic effective helpful ways of thinking and coping. In my experience this has proven to be an effective place to begin as my clients report feeling relief while learning these skills, they also report increased self-confidence and motivation.

I understand that addressing addiction is not a one-size-fits-all process and in partnership we will explore and implement strategies that can help you with your desire to change. In my years working with individuals who struggle with addiction I have learned that recovery is not a one size fits all approach. Treatment is not meant to be focused on feeling shame or blame. My experience has shown me that support, direction and education along with a sense of humor as we unpack the rough stuff can work to motivate and support you towards growth. Additionally recognizing that you own the power to change. Because I design strategies based on your needs, and feedback I also use information from Smart Recovery along with self-compassion, mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) all of which I will explain as you work towards a new beginning.
